Warner Bros: Black Adam

This October, there is a brand new DC superhero in town! Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson plays the super-being, an all-powerful demi-god whose destructive abilities threaten all. The Warner Bros movie is the latest instalment in the ongoing DC Extended Universe and as Warner Bros is within our licencing portfolio, we thought we would give you the run down on all things Black Adam.

What is the story of Black Adam?

Black Adam centres around the superhero, an anti-heroic force of nature who must learn to use his powers for the greater good. Hailing from the ancient city of Kahndaq, Black Adam has been imprisoned for many thousands of years following the elimination of his family.
Newly released and re-born as a force of vengeance, Black Adam must learn to harness his abilities to stop a threat even greater than he is.

Where does Black Adam fit in the DC Extended Universe?

That remains to be seen. At the moment, the ongoing DC movies are operating largely independently of one another.
What we do know is that Johnson’s character was meant to appear at the end of 2019’s spirited and entertaining DC adventure Shazam! The latter film’s title character, a teenage boy encased in an adult superhero’s body, is the sworn nemesis of Black Adam. It was assumed that a climactic teaser would set up an ongoing cinematic conflict.

Will Black Adam introduce the Justice Society of America?

Yes, the Justice Society of America will make its cinematic debut in Black Adam. The Justice Society of America has encompassed numerous members. For the purposes of the Black Adam movie, it’s largely the original comic book ensemble who will be present. These are the high-flying Hawkman, the de facto leader of the group, the matter-redefining Atom Smasher and the sage sorcerer Doctor Fate. Although she wasn’t a part of the original comics line-up, we can also expect to see the sound-generating Cyclone in the film.

When is the film going to be released?

It’s set to be released on October 21, 2022.

South Park: 25th Anniversary

South Park celebrated its 25th anniversary with a live concert recently and as they are within our licencing portfolio, we thought we would let you know a little about South Park and where you can watch their concert.

South Park is an American adult animated sitcom about the lives of 13 children in the 4th grade, living in the small mountain town of South Park, Colorado. It uses satire to make fun of subjects such as current events, religion, politics, and pop culture. Characters in South Park include Kyle Broflovski, Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, Kenny McCormick, Timmy Burch, Butters Stotch, Jimmy Valmer, Clyde Donovan, Millie Larsen, Annie Knitts, Bebe Stevens, Wendy Testaburger, and Jessie. These children are 10 years old. The series is about them living in their town.

The concert took place at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on 10th August 2022.

Parker and Stone were joined by rock groups Primus and Ween.

Over the years, South Park has featured many original songs penned by Parker and Stone, who went on to write the hugely popular musical The Book of Mormon.

Primus frontman Les Claypool wrote and recorded the show’s theme tune, while Ween created a song called “The Rainbow” for the cartoon.

Both bands have also appeared in the series in animated form.

Clueless is all time classic as it’s within our licencing portfolio and so we thought we would give you a brief reminder of what an amazing movie it is:

Clueless is a 1995 American comedy film loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma. It stars Alicia Silverstone in the lead role, Stacey Dash, Paul Rudd, and Brittany Murphy. The film is set in the town of Beverly Hills and was written and directed by Amy Heckerling and produced by Scott Rudin, it was released in the United States on July 19, 1995. The film spun off a television sitcom and a series of books.

Shallow, rich and socially successful Cher is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking scale. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai a makeover. When Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realizes that her disapproving ex-stepbrother was right about how misguided she was — and falls for him.

13-year-old actor Walker Scobell will play Percy Jackson for a new generation. Though the previous screen adaptations of the book series aged Percy and his friends up to 16, the forthcoming Disney+ series will stay true to the books, depicting Percy as a 12-year-old boy.

Will Logan Lerman be returning in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Lerman said that he’s “open” to returning to Percy Jackson universe but from what we can gather he does not have a set role within the series as of yet.

Marvel: Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is an upcoming series which is a sequel to Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. It is the twenty-third television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the second instalment of Phase Five. The series is produced by Marvel Studios and will be released on Disney+. As they are both within our licencing portfolio, we thought we would pick out 5 key moments we picked up on in the trailer.

1. Stakes are High

Both She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Thor: Love and Thunder, the two most recently releases from Marvel Studios, felt rather light hearted and self contained. Whereas Secret Invasion looks to be on the opposite end of the spectrum. This will arrive off the backs of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man: Quantummania. Fury’s return to Earth must mandate an even more serious shift is coming to the MCU landscape.

2. How many episodes?

Secret Invasion will only be six episodes.

3. Who is the Skrull?

We know Fury and Hill have allowed Talos to appear in their place before, so that would have limited shock value. Given that most other heroes are seemingly off-world, dead, or retired it, looks like Don Cheadle‘s James Rhodes/War Machine is a primary suspect. This show is meant to lead directly into Cheadle’s Armor Wars, so it feels unlikely to reveal Rhodey as a Skrull and then continue to follow this character into their own adventure.

4. Shapeshifting Shot

Secret Invasion delivers on the tension and suspense without giving very much away. One of the best shots of the trailer involves Talos confronting someone in a restaurant. Once words shift into a physical altercation, everyone else in the building shape-shifts into the gentleman Talos grabbed. Talos, our first friendly shapeshifter, had no clue that he was actually surrounded and deep in the clutches of the perceived enemy.

5. What do the Skrulls want?

It may be a bit plain to simply claim that the Skrulls want to take over the Earth. Fury states clearly at the end of the trailer that he desires to fight this fight alone and that he is the only one that is “standing between them and what they really want”. “Really” want? This implies taking of the Earth may be surface level.

Star Wars: Tales of a Jedi

Disney has just released many trailers for upcoming series and films one of which is the impressive new series ‘Tales of the Jedi’. As both Star Wars and Disney are a part of our licencing portfolio, we thought we would tell you everything we know about the upcoming series!

The series will consist of six animated anthology shorts that will be released in October 2022. Each episode will feature Jedi from the era of the prequel trilogy; one half of the episodes will focus on Count Dooku, the famed Sith lord that took away Anakin Skywalkers hand! While the other will focus upon Ahsoka Tano, some fans may recognise this name as she was Anakin’s padawan and is featured in the animated series ‘The Clone Wars’. Other Jedis will feature as supporting characters in the shorts. This amazing new series was created and written by Dave Filoni. They are also going to be the style of both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
